Case 107281: It’s not particularly unusual to view videos of white or multi-colored lights dancing in the night skies. As videos go, they’re quite common for MUFON Case Management System (CMS) reports, so I don’t pay a lot of attention to them even when there are videos and still photographs. But, to me, the best observers are either airline or military pilots who quite often don’t want to report their sightings for fear of a job loss or a poor performance report. Case 107281 is different, and that’s why I’m reporting it here. It’s different because the pilot had been with FedEx for 19 years, and before that, he had spent an additional 10 years in the US Air Force flying Boeing KC-135 “Stratotankers”, which required a great deal of depth perception when it came to refueling jet fighters. His co-pilot, in fact, had been a USAF McDonnell-Douglas F-15 “Strike Eagle” jet interceptor pilot, so both had extensive day and night flying experience.
On FedEx Flight FX82 flying over a mountainous region in Mexico in clear skies, pilot Erik Delgado and his co-pilot (name withheld) saw something that they had never experienced before. The co-pilot was the first to see the object about 150 miles south of Monterrey, Mexico. According to him, “It was a brilliant yellow-white plasma object — teardrop-shaped!” The MUFON field investigators, Robert Spearing (CAG International) and Ruben Uriarte (MUFON Northern California State Director) report the co-pilot as saying,
“He exclaimed, ‘Look at that shooting sta . . .’ but he didn’t finish his thought. The object had come straight down from above and suddenly a bright spotlight, white in color, seemed to turn towards them on a collision course. Both pilots realized this was a possible aircraft turning into their path with bright landing lights on. They prepared to take emergency avoidance procedure, but the object became static and paced them perfectly with the light reducing in brightness but remaining plasma-like.
“Erik, being bi-lingual, immediately realized what he was witnessing and began to shout, ‘
!Platillo, Platillo!’, which is the Spanish word for flying saucer!
“The most remarkable part of the sighting was that the crew had the wherewithal to shut off the cockpit lights and pull out a camera and begin taking video as well as still photographs while the plane flew on auto-pilot. As a result, besides 5 minutes of video and nine photos, we have the voices of the cabin crew and radio transmissions from Monterrey Ground Control. So, what we have here is what is considered an exceptional sighting by Ufology standards. First the episode was filmed so what have a physical evidence. Secondly, you have multiple witnesses which greatly enhances the validity of a case and lastly, they were highly experienced professional pilots with military backgrounds! Truly a sighting beyond reproach!”
