First female Thunderbird pilot to share resurgence message

Retired Col. Nicole “FiFi” Malachowski, the first female Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team pilot, is scheduled to share her story at Schriever Air Force Base, Dec. 19. Col. Jack Fischer, 50th Space Wing vice commander, invited Malachowski to Schriever to share her story of overcoming obstacles to emerge stronger. “We were classmates from the U.S. Air Force Academy,” he said. “I actually joined the bowling club to hang out with her because she’s awesome. We flew F-15E Strike Eagles together and crossed paths while she was a Thunderbird [pilot] and I was [flying] F-22’s because sometimes we were at the same air shows.” Fischer said he admires Malachowski’s perseverance and grit through adversity and how she is a constant source of inspiration.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid often prescribed to help with severe pain such as during surgical recovery. While it can be very helpful to those who need it, when used outside of the context of recovery, fentanyl can lead to negative consequences to an Airman’s health and career.

Team Schriever test readiness in Opinicus Visa 19-3

Personnel and first responders from the 50th Space Wing showcased their readiness during exercise Opinicus Vista 19-3 Nov. 17 - 20. at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. The purpose of OV 19-3 was to test and evaluate the base’s ability to respond to a large-scale natural disaster with potential to impact base power and affect multiple mission sets and fulfill bi-annual active shooter scenarios.

Serve – Save – Survive, water rescue program brought to light

The 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department innovated new ways for their first responders to serve our populace along the coast and in the water. According to Alani Coleman, 30th CES fire fighter and water rescue teammate, at any time Vandenberg beaches can have anywhere from 150 to 200 people. With 14 years’ experience here, Coleman has earned his share of learning opportunities that along with others have created a better program.

Since its launch in May 2019, Air Force Housing Helpline has been helping residents resolve concerns with Air Force privatized and government housing. AFCEC's Installations Directorate, which manages and executes the Air Force’s housing program, established 1-800-482-6431 as 24-hour helpline to address concerns raised regarding the military privatized housing program.

821st ABG commander visits Canadian Forces Station Alert

At the invitation of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Col. Timothy Bos, 821st Air Base Group commander at Thule Air Base, Greenland, visited Canadian Forces Station Alert Oct. 30 2019, to foster the long-standing partnership between CFS Alert and Thule AB, and to learn more about their mission.

Nitty gritty and deployment ready

The 30th Civil Engineer Squadron conducted over 96 hours of bivouac, or deployment condition, training from Nov. 4 – 8, 2019, at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, Calif.
